This album is essentially split in two. There are the 'songs' of the first half - and the live remastered recordings of musical improvisations from the 1973 tour of europe. The balance is held well, only the title track being a bit repetitive and lame.
Fracture is amazing - how the hell did they play it so perfectly - and it really is recorded live, no overdubs! And the studio tracks are mighty...Lament... one of the best Crimson songs ever!
This album should hit home with fans, but others may find it a but plodding and miss the impact of the improvised pieces - but hey - thats what Crimson is all about! None the less, theres a handful of solid songs on there well placed in any rock fans collection.
personally - i reccomend it highly, the great deceiver boxset makes a great companion if you want to dig further into this period of crimson.
