Review of Franklin BIB-1450 Bookman Holy Bible.
I bought the Franklin BIB-1450 from Amazon a few weeks ago. I wanted to be able to look up words and phrases from the Bible as well as find passages easily. I find that this unit does that, and more, superbly. Apart from finding passages by typing in the book name chapter and verse,I can type in a word (or group of words) such as 'shepherd' and after after a few seconds it tells me how many times that word occurs in the whole Bible and where and how many times it occurs in the books of the Bible! (Did you know that the word 'shepherd[s]' occurs 115 times in the New International version?!!). From there I can access the Biblical text and the search word or phrase is automatically highlighted every time it occurs. I can expand the search - so if I type in 'shepherd' and press 'More' the unit gives me synonyms of 'shepherd' and words which have some sort of connection such as 'food','sheep', 'herdmen', etc. I could look up words in the Bible beginning with 'Ab' (if I wanted to!) by typing in 'Ab*'.
I can compare a passage between the King James Version and the New International Version.
I like the built-in flexibility - for example when text is on the screen I can type in a verse and go straight there, or I can skip chapters. Any word in the text can be highlighted and a search made of that word. When the unit is turned off and then back on, it returns you to where you left off, so a particular line of study can be continued. There are up to 50 'Bookmarks' available so that a group of references on a theme could be compiled. The unit is 'user-friendly' with messages appearing if a key is pressed which doesn't have a function. There is an 'auto complete' function so, for example, you don't have to type in the whole of the word 'Deuteronomy'! There is a 'help' key which can be pressed at any time. There is also a built-in tutorial and demo.
An optional cable is available for uploading information from the internet. The initial 'Setup' menu gives opportunity to change screen contrast, shutoff time and type size.
As if two versions of the Bible with powerful search facilities was not enough, this unit also includes a clock with a 'Home' time and a 'World' time setting), a database for entering contact information (room for 100 contacts), a calculator, a convertor for converting celsius to Farenheit and for converting weights, capacity and lengths between metric and imperial!
I can thoroughly recommend the BIB-1450 for any student of the Bible. I use it all the time.
