Season 2, X-Files
Just when two/three parters were coming into being, season two had mulder and scully chasing if even more strange phenomeon. Those used to modern Xfiles will find it a bit 'old-fasioned' [scully's hair, as if it needs to be pointed out, and the glasses, need i say more?] but well worth the money. Many of the episodes are in the book series, Our Town being a great one to mention.
As with other xfiles box sets, the main problem is the season finale arc. you'l get the conluding episode from the previous season [although not with this one as season 1 ended withwithout 'to be continued'] and the first part of the next season finale. Unfortunatly with season two, the only way to get the two concluding episodes is to buy season 3, as it's the only season cliffhanger not to be out on video seperatly
great season, lots of exciting eps. 9/10
'Great entertainment' sums this series up. To say this second series is the best series would be a slight exaggeration, but imagination and invetiveness are fresh and vibrant. If I were ranking the series, I would place award this second series the silver medal, being narrowly beaten off by the fantastic third series. After a first series won many a sci-fi fan's heart, this second series didn't just sustain their love for the show, it enhanced it.
I'll always love the X-Files for its 'one-off' episodes, where the story is finished and started in 45 minutes and this series is packed full of fantastic 'one-offs' that left me begging for more.
Little Green Men
Little Green Men were the driving force behind the X-File conspiracy; in Season Two, the mythology expanded and exploded. Due to Gillian Andersons' real-life pregnancy, Scully was abducted in the sensational two-part story "Duane Barry"/"Ascension". This has had a huge impact on the mythology of the show, and can be seen in Season Two. Scully's absence allows for the emotional connection between Mulder and Scully to be explored, creating one of the shows' best emotional drama episodes, "One Breath", upon her return. Season Two also introducedthe Alien Bounty Hunter and demonstrated the extent of the cloning conspiracy.
Season Two took the template laid down by the first and built a much stronger show. The quality of episodes is extremely high this season, with only a few duds. Out of the standalone episodes, "The Calusari", "Die Hand, Die Verletz", "Our Town", and "Humbug" are my favourites. They showcase the dark horror that The X-Files became famous for. With "Humbug", the black comedy that became a mainstay of the show was born, displaying high levels of creativity.
Season Two began the almost flawless hatrick of seasons that would embody the best of The X-Files.
