1 star1 star1 star1 star1 star    Best album ever.

To be blunt this is a vile vile record however you WILL love it. If you liked the manics since Everything Must Go or This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours then you may not like this album, you have been warned, in fact these two albums are polar opposites. There isn't a bad track on this album, not only is it good music but it makes you think which is never a bad thing. Richey's lyrics are dark and dank right up until the last full stop. The music sounds very heavy and fast, very different to the slow strings of TIMTTY James voice sounds possitvily scary especial on tracks such as "Faster" which features lines being sung up close to the mic and then far away. Also credit where credit is due James and Sean had a very difficult task of putting music to Nicky's and Richey's, thought Richey wrote the majority of the lyrics, Revol is proof of the manics genius at composing music. The manics at their best a classic.

1 star1 star1 star1 star1 star    no more depressing than life itself, much more rewarding.

The Holy Bible probably ranks as one of the darkest albums in rock's short history. Forever destined to be labelled depressing by those people who live on a diet of power pop, it also does not fit into traditional heavy rock pattern. Tracks like the crazed "Faster" (still a live favourite!) show a band capable of putting together a cracking chorus out of disjointed poetry, and pulling a superb riff out of almost senseless song structure. This is not an album for fans of quite laid back music, but those who like watching a clockwork orange, and don't mind a bit of heavy metal In fact, there is a lot of poetry on this album, and one gets the impression that few could match the manic's efforts here at piecing together a good story. The haunting "4st 7lb" and "Intense humming of evil" see the bleakness and beauty of the lyrics mixed with a cold yet sympathetic tapestry of sounds. One really feels the message of every song on this album, and even as James Dean Bradfield pushes out his words as a compressed stream of bile, you know exactly what he is singing. The stylistic flaws of the last album are here eliminated against the background of despair, and here, the strong songwriting shows through it all. The beautiful "This Is Yesterday" becomes an anthem for everyone who has lost something precious, and can't take it in any more, it is a dream, like the distorted, chugging riff of "She Is Suffering" or the jolly jaunt of "Ifwhiteamerica...". To sum up, this album is no more depressing than the way of life it describes, but is ultimately far more rewarding!
