A mildly effective rebuttal without breaking the back of Dawkins and co.
Although its always a good sign to have a counter-argument(how bland would life be without one), I have to say that Wilson et als world view is fighting a losing battle against an increasingly secular society, that includes now all manner of divisions and sub-divisions.
I borrowed and read this copy and thought it a very poor counter argument and the other books like this as there only existence is making money for poor authors and having a go at Dawkins. Christians have their faith and their 'book' so why are they writing these type of books, dumb if you ask me.
I found nothing in this book to persuade me that Dawkins is wrong, to the contary, I'm glad I'm not religous at all. How wonderful the world be without religion, no so called 'holy' wars for example, lol.
An excellent riposte to the God Delusion from the Evangelical Christian tradition. Andrew Wilsons' critique is based on the Biblical phrase; "If you strike the Shepherd, the Sheep will scatter". In this case 'the Shepherds' are the key chapters of the GD; 2-4, which once deconstructed scatter 'the Sheep': Chapters 1 and 5-10; they having been rendered all but irrelevant.
Wilson brilliantly proceeds to do just that exposing Dawkins childish and naive handling of Biblical texts and general Theological ignorance that characterise and so fatally undermine the central arguments (such as they are) at the dead heart of the God Delusion.
Dawkins assertion that Jesus 'may' not have existed (note the weasel word - he thinks others are stupid) rests on the works of G.A. Wells ; and who is G.A.Wells? a great Theologian, Historian, Textual Critic or Archeologist perhaps? no; he's an emeritus Professor of German! This is the quality of scholarship the GD rests on and why critiques such as Wilsons or McGraths 'The Dawkins Delusion' are so brief (less than 200 Pages combined).
Heres an easily checked fact which speaks volumes about Dawkins the man and his methods. In one part of the GD he 'outs' Einstein as an Athiest, however the great Scientist is on public record as having said the following: " I am NOT an Atheist".
How can a Scientist and self-described Rationalist write a book which is neither rational nor Scientific? Because its arguments are based on the prejudiced works of amatuer Fruit-loops and Atheist conspiracy theorists, thats how!
