Answers

1. Does this program only work with the King James Version?
What about NIV or the Good News Bible?

LogosWord will work with any translation, if it is in a compatible format. I cannot provide the NIV at this time. However, there are other good translations out there, and part of the joy of LogosWord is that you can hunt out your own resources and extend your library of translations beyond what I can provide on my website.

The BibleMaker tool (available from my website) is able to assimilate quite a few texts and make LW-compatible plugins out of them. BibleMaker is able to convert uncompressed, unencrypted texts used with The Sword, though this has yet to be tested extensively.

There is also nothing to stop users from making their own plugins manually, if they find a useful text which BibleMaker can't handle. A Bible translation module is able to govern the way it is read, its response to clicks etc as a small piece of code is always included. The scope for development on this front is quite large, as there is nothing stopping a Bible plugin from having its own search facility etc.

2. Does LogosWord work on early versions of RISC OS?

LogosWord was originally created on RISC OS 3.6. It has been tested on VirtualAcorn, which runs RISC OS 3.11, and is fully compatible. However, VirtualAcorn provides various 'tweaks' which make all the difference. LogosWord's large processor demands and memory requirements render earlier versions of RISC OS running on older machines unsuitable for this program. However, I haven't tested it on an A5000,4000 etc. I could be wrong (?).

3. Does LogosWord work on PCs / Macs?

LogosWord is designed for the RISC OS operating system. If you wish to use any of the RISC OS software on this website, you will need to be running RISC OS. I am aware of an excellent emulator available for PCs - VirtualAcorn. Very reasonably priced.

4. Can I use your Bibles etc. without buying LogosWord?

Yes. I have designed most LogosWord plugins to be very readable with a text editor / web browser. However, I do insist that you don't compile any of the material on this website for use with any other commercial Bible software. (That's a bit mean!).

I do provide FREE Bible viewing software on the LogosWord website - namely, LogosLite - which is available for everyone to use. To those who can afford it, I encourage you to contribute something for your copy, but if you are hard up, you needn't feel obliged to pay a thing. I think everyone should be able to read a good selection of Bibles on their computer, regardless of their income.

5. Will you let us know when you add something to your website?

I do occasionally post in the acorn.announce newsgroup, so keep an eye on that.
