Figures unveiled by the communications regulator have revealed that there have been several cases of illegal hacking of phone systems in the first part of 2011.

The Commission for Communications Regulation (Comreg) has issued a warning to all businesses and organisations after there was a rise in the amount of those who think their telephone exchanges could have been illicitly compromised.

The statutory body, that is in charge of the regulation of the electronic communications sector such as telecommunications, radiocommunications and broadcasting transmission and the postal sector, examined 22 grievances from the first half of this year and of these grievances, 21 were deemed legitimate.
